Goal:
To identify exemplary safety, security, emergency preparedness and incident prevention practices in the commercial property field, and to educate members about the security and life safety assessment and planning tools, and range of preparedness options available to them.

The following is a list of the Emergency Preparedness Committee’s (EPC) objectives for 2010:
- Strengthen regular attendance and participation in our monthly meetings and subcommittees by principal BOMA San Francisco members.
- Produce an Emergency Preparedness Seminar for the BOMA San Francisco membership.
- Communication Subcommittee - Co-Chairs, Danielle Woods, Hines & Jennifer Plotke, Levi Strauss & Co: Distribute an emergency preparedness survey--with more specific questions to augment our 2009 survey--to the BOMA San Francisco membership and update the EPC website as needed.
- Event Subcommittee - Chair, Monique Scott: On the heels of our very first drill in 2009 at the Ferry Building, produce an emergency preparedness drill at a BOMA San Francisco member building and allow for the membership to participate and observe.
- Event Management Subcommittee (new for 2010) - Chair, Jennifer Tomaselli: To plan the emergency preparedness drill, coordinate and communicate with pubic and private sector participants, venue managers and the Event Subcommittee large.
- Neighborhood Subcommittee - Chair, Misa Gidding-Chatfield, PM Realty Group : Continue the Neighborhood Emergency Coalition Group with four buildings that will test for resource sharing in a true city-wide emergency. The primary goal is to establish an outline 'kit' to help BOMA San Francisco building managers review their building's resources and understand what they can share with neighboring buildings in a true emergency.
- Private/Public Sector Liaison (new for 2010)- Chair, Barry Cardoza, Union Bank: Leverage the resources and expertise provided by external private and public sector business continuity organizations, e.g., BRMA, BARCfirst, SFDEM, CalEMA,etc, while reciprocating with BOMA San Francisco EPC expertise in facility crisis preparedness and response.
- Training Subcommittee - Chair, Ryan Rusler, HarBro: Develop five emergency preparedness workshops for BOMA San Francisco members.
In order to accomplish these goals, the EPC elected in 2009 to divide the committee into subcommittees (four in 2009; six in 2010). The structure of the monthly meetings have been formatted to allow 40 minutes for presentations, public sector updates, and time for each subcommittee to provide an update to EPC members. The remaining 20 minutes provide the subcommittees time to meet and accomplish the goals of that group.
The following is a summary of what each subcommittee accomplished in 2009:
Communication Subcommittee (Chair, John Troccoe): The communication subcommittee developed an emergency preparedness survey that was distributed to the members of the EPC, and all property and building managers within BOMA San Francisco’s membership. The survey was sent to 415 people, of which 78 responded (~18.8% response rate). The subcommittee has analyzed the data and reported the findings to the EPC members. The members of the Communication Subcommittee will continue to update the EPC committee's webpage to include the most up-to-date sources of information emergency preparedness.
Event Subcommittee (Chair, Peter Franklin, Cushman & Wakefield):
Training Subcommittee (Chair, Sarah Marantette, Cushman & Wakefield): The training subcommittee has sponsored three brown bag lunches for the general BOMA San Francisco membership that have been hosted by experts on a variety of topics including: Active shooter preparedness, pandemic flu & public health preparedness for businesses and emergency restoration: strategic partnerships, business resumption and liability considerations.
Neighborhood Subcommittee (Chair, Misa Gidding-Chatfield, PM Realty Group): The neighborhood subcommittee is working on developing a model program for neighboring buildings to use in a disaster situation that would pre-establish building to building mutual aide protocols that would function if the public sector was unavailable.

Sep 28 - Critical To Emergency Preparedness: Neighboring Buildings
Transamerica Building, 600 Montgomery St., 48th Floor
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Speakers:
A property management team needs to be prepared to respond to emergency situations and, to do so, must have a clear understanding of what resources they have on hand. Several properties in the Financial District have enough staff to be self-sufficient; however, the majority of the properties have only a few personnel on staff. As such, it’s important for all property management teams to partner with adjacent properties to determine if a mutual aid arrangement can be established in advance of an emergency occurrence. Communication and knowledge are paramount to being prepared for any emergency (e.g., building specific or City-wide) and a neighborhood group of three or four properties will greatly improve and strengthen emergency preparedness for the entire group.
